1998 - Len & Connie Houle (MA) Square Dance Leaders

Lenny and Connie Houle have dedicated their entire social life to the betterment of the round and square dance activity in New England. They began dancing in 1964 ­squares with the Sparkling Spinners and Paper City and rounds - with the Happy Pairs until 1968. They returned to the activity in 1972 and became involved in a number of round dance clubs assuming leadership roles. Starting out as delegates in 1978 to Eastern District Square and Round Dance Association they progressed to serve six times as secretary, three times as meeting chainman and two terms as President. They were involved in the start up and served in numerous capacities with the Western Massachusetts Co-OP Committee, the Spring Fling Dance which evolved into the Western Massachusetts Fall Festival, the Barnyard Bunch (a pre teen square dance club), the American Heritage Team (featuring original costumes and dances from the 1800's to the present) and the Square Dance Camping Association. They have been actively involved in the promotion of the dance activity at the Eastern States Exposition, served as Vice President of the Square Dance Foundation of New England and chaired the 1991 New England Square and Round Convention. Their love of the dance activity is a hallmark of their significant involvement on the New England scene. As dance ambassadors of good will and their co-ordination of organizational efforts across New England recognition of this major promotional effort is highlighted by their induction into. The Square Dance Foundation of New England's Hall of Fame.
